Face Mug Workshop

The Bandy Heritage Center, Creative Arts Guild, and Prater’s Mill Foundation are proud to partner with Jayme Laney of Laney Pottery to present a Face Mug Workshop! Many people are familiar with the distinctive folk pottery tradition of face jugs, which have been made in North Georgia for nearly two centuries. The face mug workshop will provide students with the opportunity to participate in a modern twist on a historic North Georgia folk pottery tradition by gaining hands-on experience sculpting a unique face of their choice onto clay coffee mugs. This class is a morning session which will last two and a half hours total. Each student will be given a large stoneware clay mug and additional clay, and using clay sculpting tools, shown how to sculpt a face onto the mug. Each student will have the opportunity to create a face mug, which will be fired in a kiln by their instructor after the workshop and mailed to their address. All necessary equipment and supplies will be provided by the instructor. This class is suitable for ages thirteen and up; students under eighteen must have an accompanying adult present at all times. No prior knowledge of or experience with pottery making is necessary.

Honestly, my robe . . . is downright ugly! But I LOVE so many things about this 21-year-old relic! Mainly, it has stood the test of time and has managed to survive some tough days. But, more importantly . . . like me . . . my robe has great capacity for more . . . more life and more purpose. My pink robe is like so many amazingly resilient women who are full of life, extremely capable, versatile, and determined to live life with purpose and confidence. Legend has it that the spirits of the past still linger in our abandoned tunnel, once traversed by trains that rumbled through the darkness, carrying the echoes of forgotten whispers and unspoken fears. Walking through the darkness, you’ll feel the weight of history and the whispers of the dead. This unique event is perfect for thrill-seekers, history buffs, and those who dare to venture into the unknown. But be warned: the shadows can be deceiving, and the silence can be unsettling. Tickets are $13 per person, and kids 5 and under are free.
